Frequently Asked Questions

Magnesium

What is magnesium?

Magnesium is one of those minerals that really deserves your attention. It’s essential for more than 300 reactions in your body, helping with everything from muscle relaxation and nerve function to heart health and energy. It helps your muscles relax, supports better sleep, and can make a real difference to how you feel day-to-day.

The problem is, most of us don't get enough magnesium through diet alone. Modern farming has depleted minerals from the soil, so it's harder to get what we need from food. You can read more about it here.

What is magnesium oil (topical magnesium)?

"Magnesium oil" is really just magnesium chloride dissolved in water, but it feels slightly oily (even though it's not an oil!). It's a way to get magnesium into your body by applying it directly to your skin, which bypasses the digestive system.

Can you have too much magnesium?

This is a great question! When you take oral magnesium (like a pill), large doses can have a laxative effect because it's a natural relaxant.

That's the main benefit of topical magnesium. Your body just absorbs what it needs through the skin, so you don't have to worry about overdoing it or upsetting your stomach. We bust a few other myths here.

What is the different between topical and oral methods of magnesium?

Here’s the thing: pills and topical sprays both do the same job (boost your levels), but they take very different routes.

Oral Magnesium
When you swallow magnesium, it has to go on a long journey through your whole digestive system. This works, but it can be slow and for many people, it causes digestive discomfort.

Topical Magnesium
Topical magnesium skips the digestive system. You apply it to your skin, it absorbs directly into your muscles right where you need it, and you often feel the effect much faster. We wrote a whole blog about it.

What is magnesium deficiency?

Over time, low magnesium can affect your bones, sleep, and energy levels. It can make you feel nervous, and even affect your heart health. It can also lead to low levels of other important minerals.

Some contributing factors include our modern diet (refined foods), stress, and even drinking alcohol or coffee, all of which can deplete your body's magnesium stores.

How do I know if I am deficient in magnesium?

It's tricky, because 99% of your body's magnesium is stored in your bones and muscles, not your blood. That means a blood test is unlikely to give you the full picture.

It's often easier to look for the common signs: tired muscles, restless nights, that 'foggy' feeling, or annoying cramps and twitches. Here are 12 signs you might need more magnesium.

Topical Magnesium

Can I use these products on my pets?

Yes, our simple magnesium sprays (like the Sensitive Spray) are safe to use on pets. We recommend applying it to an area where the fur is thin, like the inside of their legs or on their stomach. As always, if you're not sure, it's best to have a quick chat with your vet.

Can it help with sleep and which product is best?

Many of our customers find it really helps them wind down. If you've been tossing and turning, you're not alone. Insomnia can have many causes, but magnesium helps relax muscles and calm the nervous system. We'd recommend our Magnesium Sleep Lotion or Magnesium Sleep Flakes if you prefer a bath. Here's how it helps your body switch off.

What product is best to use if I have sensitive skin?

If you have sensitive skin or if you're trying magnesium oil for the first time, we would recommend our Magnesium Sensitive Spray. It's gentler while your skin adjusts.

Do I need to wash it off after application?

Nope! Our magnesium products are designed to absorb quickly without leaving a sticky or salty residue. You can just apply them and get on with your day (or night).

Why does it tingle on my skin?

That tingling sensation catches a lot of people off guard, but don't worry, it's completely normal.

When your magnesium levels are low, your skin can be more sensitive to topical magnesium. The tingling usually means your body is absorbing it quickly because it really needs it.

The good news? Most people find it lessens within a week or two. In the meantime, try these tricks: apply it to damp skin right after a shower, or smooth on a light moisturiser first. We explain the tingle in detail here.

Who should/shouldn't use topical magnesium?

If you have kidney impairment or have been diagnosed with very low blood pressure, it's always best to check with your health professional before using any new magnesium product.

Our products are generally very well tolerated, but if you're ever unsure, a quick chat with your doctor is the best way to go.

Is it safe to use if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?

We completely understand wanting to be extra careful right now.

Topical magnesium is generally considered safe during pregnancy (many midwives recommend it for leg cramps!).

However, everyone's pregnancy is different, and we're not medical professionals. We'd always recommend having a quick chat with your GP or midwife first, just to make sure it's right for you. (And congratulations!)

My spray/pump head has stopped working, what should I do?

We're so sorry about that! Because our products are made with highly concentrated natural minerals, crystallisation can sometimes happen in the pump, especially if it hasn't been used in a while.

There's usually an easy fix: remove the pump from the bottle, run it under a warm tap for a few minutes, and press down on the pump head several times to flush it out.

If that doesn’t work, please contact hello@amazingyou.com for further assistance.

What if I have a product-specific question?

Shipping

How much is shipping in Australia?

We have a few simple, flat-rate options for delivery within Australia:

  • Standard Shipping (2-8 business days): $9.98 AUD
  • Express Shipping (1-4 business days): $19.98 AUD

We also offer free shipping based on how much you spend:

  • Spend $99.00 – $198.99: You get Free Standard Shipping!
  • Spend $199.00 and up: We'll automatically upgrade you to Free Express Shipping, on us.

Do you ship internationally (NZ, US, UK, etc.)?

Yes, we ship to most countries! The shipping cost and options depend on your location.

The best way to see the exact price is to add your items to the cart and head to the checkout. The system will show you all the available options and the final price (often in your local currency) before you need to confirm your order.

Please note: all import duties, taxes, and charges are your responsibility. We'd recommend checking with the customs office in your country to determine what these additional costs might be.

Can I track my order?

Absolutely. As soon as your order is dispatched from our warehouse, you'll receive a shipping confirmation email with a link to track your order.

How long will it take to dispatch my order?

We're a small team and we pack every order with care. We work hard to get all orders processed and out the door within 1-2 business days.*

*Please note that during very busy times (like a sale) our handling times might increase by a few days. We promise we're moving as quickly as we can!

Are there any delays on delivery times?

Sometimes, couriers can experience delays from unforeseen circumstances (like wild weather or network issues). If this happens, our team will do everything we can to help, but we may ask for your patience if the situation is out of our control. You can find the latest updates from Australia Post here.

What if my package goes missing? (And what is Shipping Protection?)

This is the most stressful part of online shopping, and we've tried to make it as simple as possible. If your package seems 'stuck in transit' for longer than expected, please let us know so we can lodge an investigation with the courier. This can take some time.

This is why we offer Shipping Protection.

For a small fee at checkout, this lets you skip the queue. If your parcel is lost or damaged in transit, you just email us directly. Instead of waiting weeks for a courier investigation, we'll get a replacement I sent out to you straight away. No fuss, no stress.

If you choose not to select Shipping Protection, you will be responsible for following the standard courier claims process for any lost or damaged items.

How long will it take my parcel to arrive?

Domestic (Australia): We use the delivery times you select at checkout (Standard 2-8 business days, or Express 1-4 business days).

International: For the most up-to-date delivery time estimates to your specific country from Australia, we'd recommend checking the official Australia Post International Delivery Times guide. (This will open in a new tab).

I received a damaged/faulty or different item to what I ordered, what should I do?

Oh no! We're so sorry. We pack everything with care, but sometimes the journey is a bit rough.

If this happens, please see the answer to "What if my package goes missing?" above. If you've selected our Shipping Protection, this is super easy to fix!

Either way, please send an email straight away to hello@amazingyou.com with your order number and a quick photo of the damaged item. We'll get it sorted for you.

I think I've had an allergic reaction, what do I do?

This is very rare, but what you're likely feeling is the 'tingle' that many people experience. Please see the answer to 'Why does it tingle on my skin?' in the 'Topical Magnesium' section above. It's almost always a sign of magnesium deficiency, not an allergic reaction.

If you have any concerns at all, please stop using the product and get in touch with us.
